Bwambale Wilberforce

Bwambale Wilberforce is a Ugandan clinical microbiologist and biotechnology specialist working at the intersection of molecular diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance, and translational research. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and is currently in the final year of a Master of Science in Clinical Microbiology. His research focuses on the burden of fluconazole resistance and the biofilm formation potential of Candida albicans in pregnant women with vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), with the aim of improving treatment outcomes in vulnerable populations. He currently works as an Applications Specialist responsible for the QIAGEN Life Sciences and Molecular Diagnostics portfolio at Medfield Solutions (U) Ltd., where he supports the implementation, optimization, and training of advanced molecular technologies across research and clinical laboratories. Through this role, he actively contributes to strengthening laboratory capacity and enabling high-quality research by bridging cutting-edge technologies with practical scientific and diagnostic applications. In addition to his professional work, Wilberforce teaches microbiology at ISBAT University part time, where he is involved in training and mentoring the next generation of scientists. His research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying antimicrobial resistance and the development of innovative alternative therapies to combat AMR. He is also interested in HIV provirus reservoir studies as part of ongoing global efforts toward achieving a functional cure for HIV.
